Initial Research into Pentesting

Building on a solid base of IT skills and knowledge across a variety of domains, I expected to be well placed towards moving into the infosec and ethical hacking world.

This wasn’t a poor assumption, however, the scale and scope of the security and pentesting field is significant.

So I need to build the knowledge and skills to do the work. I also need to build a personal brand that demonstrates my ability to undertake the role.

Fortunately, I enjoy all aspects of this set of challenges and I have a very long attention span, which allows me to work for long periods of time uninterupted.

Having worked in the IT security field and in safety engineering including software safety, I think I have the basics covered.

Set some Draft Objectives

These may change but to set these I will:

• Research the field of infosec I am interested in and willing to commit time to.
• Decide the aspects of infosec I like and want to work in.
• Baseline the knowledge I have.
• Identify my gaps in knowledge and skills.
• Identify the sources of knowledge and training to fill those gaps.
