Entry 2 – Getting clear

Where to start?

My network is a little stale and I’m not known for my coding abilities and so there is a need to rebrand myself as a coding freelancer.

Having a look across the domain and at my skillset, I think that niching down to the data science area is probably my best short-term advantage. Here I do have some pedigree and experience that my network will recognise.

I’d also like to explore the freelance platforms that are used and see if there is merit in applying for tasks on those. Full disclosure, I did look around upwork some time ago to see how it worked but didn’t really spend time pursuing many tasks. I’ve also staked a few online forums and groups looking at Upwork and Fiverr as potential platforms for freelance opportunities.

Focus is generally the best strategy and so for the next few months, I will focus on the Upwork platform. And this blog will report my experiences.

My skills:

I’m adept at web development as well as webscraping using Scrapy, the Requests Library, Beautiful Soup and Selenium. I also have extensive experience in statistics and business analysis from my MSc and MBA studies. So that should lend some credibility to a profile and bolster a proposal letter.

So let’s get started!
