The Best 4 NLP Techniques for Success

Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) is a selection of psychology, counselling and hypnosis techniques used to model the successful performance of other people.

It is built on the assumption that there is a connection between mental processes, language patterns and behaviour. This seems quite intuitive as we often talk to ourselves to help us decide what to do.

So how can we apply the best parts of NLP quickly to improve our performance?

Rapport Building: Master the art of connecting with others by matching and mirroring body language, tone, and speech patterns to create a sense of trust and understanding. People like people who are like themselves. So match other people to be liked…And once you’ve built rapport, then you can lead the conversation.

Anchoring: The psychologist Pavlov identified that people (like other animals) respond to external triggers. If we smell popcorn at a movie theatre, we feel the need to buy some! We can create our own triggers or ‘anchors’ for a desired emotional state so we can feel that state at will. By associating a specific physical touch, gesture, or word with a positive state we can generate positive feelings and responses when needed. Great for when you need a boost before a challenging meeting or task.

Reframing: We interpret things based on the context. Changing that perspective can often make you see things in a completely different way. for example, a “no’ may be considered as a rejection. OR an indication that you need to change the offer or be more persistent.

Visualization: Studies have found that the brain considers a mental rehearsal of an action to be almost as effective as performing that action to learn how to do something. So we can use our imagination to envision successful outcomes. This will help prepare for the activity and improve focus and motivation towards achieving a specific outcome.

So consider using, Rapport Building, Anchoring, Reframing and Anchoring to improve your mindset and performance.
